Strasbourg

Strasbourg is the capital of Alsace in eastern France and the official seat of the European Parliament.

With its beautiful monuments, museums, parks and gardens this city really does have so much to offer. One of the cities most famous attractions has to be the Notre-Dame Cathedral which is just a masterpiece of Gothic art. Other main attractions are the Egyptian House, the banks of the river lll, the Krutenau, the Place de la Republique, a monumental masterpiece, the Grand Ile, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, plus the Botanic Gardens, a poetic journey into the heart of science.

If you love wine then the Alsace wine route is a must, it’s 170 kilometres long and is one of France’s most beautiful tourist routes, featuring charming villages and countryside. You will come across many wineries and vineyards along your way, plus dozens of beautiful towns and villages including the medieval villages of Colmar, Kintzheim and Riquewihr. If you like your wine then this route is definitely a must for you.
Strasbourg has a wide range of shopping opportunities, ranging from colourful markets to shopping malls. Along rue des Orfevres and rue de la Mesange you will find a number of gourmet specialist shops stocking brands like Cartier, Gucci and Hermes. The attractive Place des Halles is Strasbourg’s main shopping centre with 180 shops, plus fine restaurants and bars. If you love Christmas then attending the Christmas market in December is a real treat, it dates back to the 16^th century and sells everything from hot wine to clay figurines, toys and gourmet delicacies.

Being a University City Strasbourg is known for its amazing nightlife. The city has a number of bars, restaurants and nightclubs to suit everyone. Some of the most popular bars being Le Seven, Irish Times, Le Schluch, Murphy’s House, Pub Nelson, Les Aviators and La Java-Le Village. If the bar scene isn’t your thing then you might want to head to one of Strasbourg’s popular casinos like Casino de Niederbronn. Strasbourg has so much to offer at night from live music, classical music, Opera, theatre and much more.
Don’t forget to try out one of the boat cruises along the banks of the River lll. This is a great way to see all the amazing sights that you missed, plus if you wish you can take one of the romantic dinner cruises. One of the best tours is done by Batorama, they have both glass boats and open air boats and the tour takes around 90 minutes. You head through the city and get to listen to great commentary about buildings and history.
