Oxford

Oxford is located in the county town of Oxfordshire In southern England.

The city is known as the “city of dreaming spires”, a name that was given to it by the poet Matthew Arnold. Oxford has so much to offer from kid’s activities, museums and exhibitions, theatres and play’s, cinema, traditional pubs and clubs and castle prison, which is a new development built on the grounds of the former prison. When it comes to things to do and see Oxford really does have it all. If you head to Oxford during summer and you love the theatre then you might find one of the outdoor Shakespeare performances a real treat.

High Street Oxford

One of Oxfords most popular streets is the High Street in the city centre, here you will find wonderful fashion outlets, beautiful restaurants, the famous Oxford University shop and St Mary’s church. Along High Street you will see a number of cobbled alleyways with building much older than they look. High Street also offers specialist food shops and boutiques and family owned stores. If you love shopping then Bicester Village which is a designer retail outlet with 130 luxury boutiques is great. Oxford also has some wonderful weekly outdoor markets.

Being a University City, Oxford is known for its great choice of theatres. If you like going to the theatre then this is definitely the place for you with plenty to choose from. With the Oxford Playhouse which is one of Britain’s leading theatres, The New Theatre which hosts a variety of touring productions and many more, you are sure to find the show or musical for you. You will also find a number of cinema’s on offer if watching a film is your thing.

Oxford’s restaurants cater for all tastes from Thai, Polish, Jamaican, French, Italian and many more. Many of these restaurants are found on Crowley Road or in the Castle complex. If you like going to the pub then take a walk down some of Oxford’s cobbled streets and take your pick. The town also has great nightclubs with the latest hip hop and R ‘n’ B music for those of you that like partying till late.

A trip to Oxford wouldn’t be complete without visiting one of Oxford’s world class museums. Some of the favourites being the Ashmolean Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Museum of History and Science and the Museum of Oxford. The best part being that the admission is free in most of them. All of them offer something totally different; if you love history then visiting one of these museums is a must.
