Liverpool was awarded the European City of Culture in 2008 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Undoubtedly the city is most famous because of the Beatles, but Liverpool has so much more to offer. The city is home to two top football clubs, Everton FC and Liverpool FC, The Walker Museum which has a fine collection of sculptures and paintings dating back to 1300 through to the present day, Liverpool Cathedral, The Albert Dock, The Tate and much more. This booming city definitely has something to offer everyone.

The Albert Dock Liverpool

Liverpool’s world heritage site officially stretches from the Albert Dock, along the Pier Head and up to Stanley Dock. The Albert Dock is a popular with tourist because of its wide choice of attractions and eateries that make it fun for all the family. Every type of restaurant is available in Liverpool, from fine dining to bistros and cafés. You will find anything from wholesome British food to Oriental cuisine. Some of the most popular restaurants would have to be the Alma de Cuba, the Pan-American Club, the Everyman Bistro and London Carriage Works.

If you like to shop then you can shop till you drop in Liverpool. With the creation of Liverpool One, its newest shopping centre, the Metquarter, Cavern Walks, St Johns Centre and Clayton Square, you are sure to find what you are looking for when it comes to designer and high street names. The nightlife in Liverpool is legendary. Some places are internationally famous, like Cream and The Cavern Club. You will find anything from wine bars, pubs, clubs, comedy clubs and also dance venues. Liverpool really does have it all when it comes to that great night out. The Cavern Club is where the Beatles first hit the stage and performed back in 1961. The club today still plays host to big names in the music industry. You might want to head to the club during it quieter periods because you will be able to experience cover bands playing Beatles songs.

Don’t forget before you leave to take a trip on the Yellow Duckmarine tour. They say you’ve never toured Liverpool until you’ve been on the Yellow Duckmarine. This is an hour long journey that starts at the road, taking in the historic waterfront, allowing you to see the city’s famous sights. One of the fun parts is when it makes a dramatic ‘Splashdown’ in the Salthouse Dock.
