Donegal

Donegal is situated in the extreme North-West of the country with a coastline that faces the Atlantic Ocean.

It’s another popular place for tourists to visit. Even though it is part of Ulster, it still belongs to the Republic of Ireland. With its beautiful beaches and rugged landscape it’s a very attractive place for a holiday.

Bunbeg Harbour Donegal

You will find outdoor activities are very popular here, such as hiking, surfing, golf & fishing. You will find many sandy beaches around the Donegal area, one of the popular ones being Murvagh beach, which is popular with surfers. If you love fishing then you will come across many little fishing villages, two of the popular ones being Bunbeg fishing village & Burtonport.

Donegal has a number of historical sites to see like Donegal castle which was built by the O’Donnell’s in the 15^th century. Also Donegal Abbey, The Diamond, the Grianan of Aileach are all remarkable historic things to see whilst visiting Donegal. In the North West corner of Donegal you will find Glenveagh National Park with over 16,000 hectares of beautiful mountains, lakes & woodland. The National Park contains the peaks of the two highest mountains in Co Donegal, Errigal & Slieve Snaght. The park is open to the public all year round.

Many people tend to travel to nearby towns such as Letterkenny to do their weekly shopping. Letterkenny shopping centre has 36 stores, plus other facilities. You will find many pubs and clubs in the Donegal area with great traditional Irish music sessions & friendly staff.
