Lyon

Lyon is located in east-central France in the Ryan-Alps region.

It’s the third largest city in France and centre of the second largest metropolitan area. This thriving city has plenty to offer from its outstanding art museums, a dynamic cultural life, a busy clubbing and drinking scene, a popular university and fantastic shopping. It’s an old historical town which is great to explore on foot or bicycle. The town is known for its huge number of restaurants with great international chefs. Let’s not forget because of its beautiful architecture and roman ruins its now recognised by UNESCO.

When it comes to eating out you really can take your pick of restaurants in Lyon. With all its Michelin star restaurants it’s known to some as the food capital of the world. The British love the French capital so much that they don’t see past it sometimes, ignoring what France really has to offer. One of the most famous chefs in Lyon is Paul Bocuse whose three star Michelin restaurant is just to the north of the city. Another popular restaurant is the Les Terrasses which is the restaurant of a luxury four star hotel Villa Florentine, the chef being Davy Tissot.

When it comes to shopping like most large French cities Lyon is paradise. From great food markets, boutiques and designer French labels Lyon has it all. The area of Presquile has the most attractive streets for shopping with rue Victor Hugo and rue de la Republique. Lyon also boasts one of the best chocolate shops in the world by Bernachon, who is the most famous chocolatier in France. His shop is huge and is well worth a visit, If not for you then for that perfect gift for a loved one. If you like markets then the famous flea market Les Puces du Canal is on Sundays located on the outskirts of Lyon. For casual shopping Lyon’s Part-Dieu shopping centre is ideal with 230 stores in it, it’s one of Europe’s largest.

At night Lyon comes alive with Presquile and Croix Rousse being the liveliest districts. There is a wide variety of pubs and clubs scattered all over the city, you will find so many to choose from, English, Irish, French, Latino, Cuban to name a few. Whatever pub or club you are looking for you will definitely find it in Lyon. If clubbing isn’t your thing then Lyon has many over things to do at night, theatre, opera and cultural events. The Celestins Theatre and the Lumiere Institute contribute to the cities international reputation and strong cultural influence.
