York

York is filled with Roman, Viking and Medieval heritage and is the capital of Yorkshire.

You will find so much to do and see in York, you may wonder where to begin. You might want to start by taking a look at the York Minster; a whole day could be spent wondering around this magnificent building. Or have a look at the National Railway Museum, the Yorvik Viking Centre, York Maze, the City Walls or the spectacular Historical Houses. This spectacular Medieval City has so much to offer us all.

The streets of York are filled with street entertainers and if you love shopping then you will find everything from designer clothing to bargain street basements. Coney Street is the main street for shopping, with huge department stores and well known chain stores. At the end of the street there is Mansion House which is the official home of the Lord Mayor of York. Other popular streets for shoppers are Parliament Street, which is also used for festivals and exhibitions and Stonegate which is one of the most popular with tourists.

York has a vibrant nightlife of bars, clubs, restaurants and family friendly venues. You will find a huge number of bars to choose from. Some of the most popular being in the lively up spot the ‘Latin Quarter’, which is right in the centre of the city. Bars tend to open late and are all a short distance from one another. Here you will also find Tapas, Latin Jazz, Salsa dancing and also mainstream sounds and flavours.

Another reason why travellers go to York is its wonderful choice of sporting activities, from hiking up Mount Agamenticus to swimming, fishing and boating. If you enjoy taking to the beach then you might find a spot of beach volleyball interesting. It is also known for its horse racing, every year in August the York race course hosts the Ebor festival, along with others scattered through the summer season.

You may wish to end your trip to York by doing a spot of sightseeing on one of the famous bus tours. Hopping on one of the bus tours will give you the chance to see all the sites that you missed out on. With 22 stops and live commentary it’s one of the best ways to take it all in.
